For over three decades, we at International Adventures
Unlimited have continually sought out some of the best hunting values to appear on the big game hunting market. Some of those operations have lasted for over 30 years, some operations come and go on a shorter time period because of ever changing political, economic, and environmental issues. In this continual search for outstanding values for our clients, we have come on to the opportunity to hunt the East Caucasian Tur in the country of Azerbaijan. I don’t need to tell you how expensive high altitude sheep and goat hunting has gotten in recent years, where it is possible to pay over $50,000 for the some of those hunts. |
The East Caucasian (or Dagestan) Tur live at an altitude from 7,500 to 10,000 feet. Our partners in Azerbaijan are set up to make this a very successful hunt for this trophy that is labeled as a goat in the CARPA World Slam, and also listed as a sheep in the OVIS World Slam. This hunt will have an appeal to trophy collectors, however, in that this hunt is priced well almost half what some people are asking for this hunt, it can be an excellent choice for hunters just beginning their international career.
The season begins the first of June, and finishes in October. Representatives will meet our clients at the airport in Baku, where they will help with all of the custom documents, as well as your firearm paperwork. Visas will be issued through invitations that will be arranged for you in advance of your trip.
After entering the country, depending on the schedule, you may spend the night in Baku, and begin your travel the next morning, or possibly head out immediately to the Ismailli District by jeep or mini bus accompanied by the hunt manager and interpreter. That trip will take approximately two and a half hours. Upon arrival, you will take a truck to our mountainous camp that is settled at an elevation of approximately 5,000 feet. This road passes through rivers, mountains, and forests. This trip will last about two to three hours.

In the camp there is a hunter building waiting for us that is clean and very comfortable equipped with beds, toilet, shower, and hot water. The camp is also equipped with an electric generator as well as satellite communication. The menu while you are there includes dishes of favorite national cuisine and European style, prepared by a professional cook. The hunt is controlled by huntsmen, and outsiders are not allowed to hunt in the territory, which is certainly conducive to top producing quality trophies for our hunters. The hunt lasts for five days. As a rule, it does not take all five days for the hunter to collect his trophy. It is possible to hunt a second tur or depending on time and logistics, a Caucasian bear, roe deer, chamois, or wild boar may be added to the list of trophies that could possibly be taken.
The typical method of hunting this tur is by spot and stalk, however, it is possible to do some organized drives, especially for hunters who may not physically be able to take a difficult climb at this elevation.
Typical of mountain hunting, shooting distances can reach out to an average of 200 to 350 yards. Depending on the weather, it is possible to go by horseback and stay in a spike camp that may be in place at an altitude as much as 10,000 feet. The trophies will all be professionally cared for and salted, with the skull boiled out. Sometimes it is possible for a hunter to carry his trophy home with him with the proper veterinary certificates, or we will help arrange for the shipping and importing of your trophy.
The last evening spent in Baku typically includes some sight seeing with a final banquet before your trip home. This hunt of a lifetime for this species of tur will no doubt be a very exciting and rewarding experience for you. The mountains are beautiful, and the game is abundant. I hope you can be part of this new and exciting adventure. |
